Hand Trucks

June 23, 2009

Since my post on hand trucks was deleted by someone trying to fix the layout of this blog, I will post another article on hand trucks.

10 Uses for a Hand Truck

Here are 10 uses for a hand truck.

1. To move a stack of boxes.

2. To move a piece of furniture, such as a chest of drawers or a book shelf.

3. To move an appliance. (We don’t recommend this because appliances have a
tenancy to fall off the hand truck.)

4. To move small heavy objects, like an engine block or a small engine.

5. To haul Firewood.

6. To move a full barrel of any kind of liquid.

7. To move a bucket full of garden tools, such as shovels, rakes, or hoes.

8. To lift an end of a big or long heavy object, so you can put a block under it
for easier grabbing.

9. To move a store display case or a chest style freezer. This will require two
hand trucks, one on each end.

10. To move a store mannequin, or a live person that is in your way. Just kidding
on the live person bit. It has been done before, but is not recommended,
they move to much.

With all of these uses for a hand truck, you should have one on hand at all times.

Featured Product of the Week

June 16, 2009

This week we are featuring moving blankets. We have 5 different types of moving blankets or moving pads, depending on what you want to call them. I won’t list them all, just know they come in different thicknesses, and different colors. I know what you’re saying, “who cares about colors”? Well you’re right, color doesn’t matter, but each color denotes a different style and thickness. They all come 12 moving blankets to a case. The moving skins come 24 to a case. They are thinner and have a smooth finish to them.

Moving pads are mainly for protecting your furniture, but there are other uses, such as long term storage, and protecting your appliances. For these applications I suggest the quilted furniture covers and quilted appliance covers we featured last week, only because they fit better. This is up to you. Which ever way you go, know that these will protect your valuable furniture and appliances.

As always, if you have any questions, feel free to write us at info@ultimatemovingsupplies.com or just post a comment. Thank you for your interest. Until next week, see ya.

Product of the Week

June 9, 2009

This week I am going to mention quilted furniture covers. These furniture covers are usually used when you are putting your furniture into long term storage, but can be used when you are moving. They give you more protection than just plastic covers and better protection than moving blankets. Moving blankets do not cover your valuable sofas, loveseats, or chairs as well as the quilted furniture covers. Our furniture covers are tailored to fit each particular piece of furniture. We offer covers for your sofa, love seat, chair, and over-stuffed chairs, such as a recliner. You know as well as I, when you are packing your moving truck, things are going to rub up against your furniture. Sometimes those things have sharp edges or sharp points, so to protect your furniture, invest in some quality furniture covers.

Ultimate Moving Supplies also offers appliance covers. Such as washer/dryer covers and refrigerator covers. These, like the furniture covers, protect your appliances from scratches and dings. You pay enough for your appliances, you don’t need to have them dinged up. For those of you that have large screen TVs, we also offer a big screen TV cover. Big screen TVs usually cost more than your appliances or your furniture. If it is valuable, you will want to protect it. Period.

With that said, look at our furniture covers and our appliance covers. The cost far out weighs the damage that can be done to your valuables. Having furniture covers on hand is very handy when you go to paint inside your house. You won’t have to move your furniture completely out the room if they are covered.

Thank you for your interest, and have a great day.

Appliance Dollies

May 19, 2009

Today I would like to talk about appliance dollies. This is another tool which would be good to have on hand at all times. Appliances are always breaking, so when you need to replace them, you will have an appliance dolly on hand. The one thing you want to be careful about is loaning it out. I’m sure you all know how that goes. You loan it out, and never see it again.

There are several different styles and types of appliance dollies. There are steel ones, there are aluminum ones. There are single strap appliance dollies and there are double strap appliance dollies. If you want one to just have around, then I would suggest the steel single strap, it is the least expensive. If you are a professional appliance mover, then you probably want the aluminum double strap.

We also carry a big screen TV appliance dolly. This is great for moving those big ass TVs. It has built in tilt to it.

Product of the Week

May 12, 2009

Being as this is my first post, let me explain what this blog is all about. Each week I will post a new product, give some of the product details, and some uses for each product.

Today I am going to tell you about the carpeted furniture dolly. The furniture dolly is generally used to move your heavier items without having to actually carry them. The good thing about having one on hand at all times is if you want to move say, a china cabinet, across the room. You put it on the furniture dolly, and boom, you can wheel it where ever you want. If you can’t decide where you want it, leave it on the dolly. A few things you can use a furniture dolly for are, moving file cabinets, book shelves, entertainment centers, and bedroom furniture. Most furniture dollies are rated to carry loads that you would not be able to lift, so don’t worry about them collapsing on you.

The bad thing about furniture dollies is that it is hard to go over a door threshold. If you encounter this problem, I recommend hand carrying the item through the door, and putting it back on the dolly after you are through the door. Most interior doors do not have thresholds, so you can wheel it anywhere throughout the house.

Being as it is made of wood, and covered with carpet, it will not scratch your furniture. The carpeted wood dolly is very inexpensive for the use you will get out of it, so you may want to have more than one on hand at all times.

You never know when you will need one.
